Competition for young musicians.
there usually seems to be a good chance of getting some folk club gigs
around the country out of it as they have multiple prizes of this sort.
Under 25s only though, I'm afraid.

A competition for young musicians
Are you under 25? If not, please pass this on to people who are
Do you sing or play traditionally based music?
This annual event is for young performers of all styles of traditional
or contemporary folk, roots or world music, whether you
play traditional material or write your own. Categories are under 18 and
18-24.
There is no one 'winner', but it's a great day, a chance to get your
music heard and loads of great prizes are awarded to the
most appropriate acts. Prizes in 2006 included performance opportunities
at Towersey, Tenterden and Oxford Folk Festivals
and St Albans folk at the festival, and folk clubs, including Redbourn,
Waltham Abbey, Chesham, Letchworth, Seaford, Lewes
Arms folk clubs. Many of these will be offering opportunities again in
2007.
To enter New Roots 2007, send a cassette, CD or minidisc with up to 15
minutes of your music to:

Closing date 31 January 2007
The final will take place on Sunday April 15 2007 at Trestle Arts Base,
Russet Drive, St Albans. Performers short-listed
by the judges, Pete Coe, Laurel Swift, Lynne Heraud and Andy Stafford,
will be invited to take part. Further information will
